Constitution

  1. The purpose of Union Supporters Amerika (the “club”) is to organize adherents of 1. FC Union Berlin (“Union”) in the United States in order to promote the positive values of the club and give back to society through a common passion for sport and Union.
  1. The club accepts all members regardless of race, creed, sexual orientation, or any other factor unrelated to character and team support. The only relevant criterion is an active support for Union. Any discrimination will not be tolerated. The club recognizes it is social in nature and must serve as a positive example of tolerance, respect, and fairness.
  1. The fundamental values of the club are those enshrined in the constitution of Union, as well as this constitution.
  1. Additionally, members will always strive to uphold the four tenets of the “Boonesches Gesetz”, or “Boonian Rules”:
    • Never make a player a scapegoat
    • Never whistle (or otherwise disparage) the team
    • Never leave the stadium before the final whistle
    • Hoarseness is the soreness of the Union-Fan
  1. The official language of club business is English. However, German will be accepted and translations of club material shall be provided upon request. Members are encouraged to learn a sufficient amount of German to participate in songs, chants, etc.
  1. Members must strive to learn about and uphold club traditions.
  1. Amongst direct competitors, members’ ultimate allegiance must be to Union.
  1. The club is agnostic between the terms “soccer” and “football”. For clarity, “soccer” will be used in this document.
  1. In order to maintain an “active” status in the club, members must contribute time or resources, as they are able. In principle, there is no financial requirement to participation, though a $20 yearly membership is suggested. Charitable contributions of time in lieu of money are also accepted, so long as they are undertaken in the name of the club.
  1. Due to the geographic challenges involved in managing the club, leadership will take a decentralized approach to management. With the exception of President, no official positions are established, though it is foreseen that this may change with time.
  1. The position of President will be held by the founder, until and if he sees fit to resign, at which point the position will be elected by the membership on a biennial basis.
    • Further positions may be established by the amendment of this constitution and may be elected or appointed, as deemed appropriate by the active membership.
  1. Excess funds at the end of each year will be donated to a charity selected by membership
    • Any funds earmarked for previously-approved projects are exempt from this rule
  1. This constitution may be amended by 2/3 vote of the active membership with concurrence of the President
